Philip Park17

Irvine, CA, United States

Hi my name is Philip and I’m an indie developer based in Irvine, California. For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with languages and linguistics, especially historical linguistics and etymology. In my free time, you can catch me walking my dog, updating my letterboxd, and filling out crosswords with my family.

Scholarships

Philip has been awarded a WWDC scholarship in 2024. Here is the submission that got him there.

In 2024, applicants were tasked with creating an interactive app playground on the topic of their choice to showcase their passion for coding. New for 2024, 50 Distinguished Winners were recognized for their outstanding submissions and invited to Apple in Cupertino. Here’s how Philip describes his winning submission.

I created a Swift site that monitors data on endangered languages. Currently, the site is sourcing its data from the Berlin-ELAR database, as well as the U Hawaii Monoa database. The interactive map feature allows users to view the amount of speakers, current revitalization efforts, and even hear native speakers in conversation (only supported for 3 languages for now). I was super excited that I got flown out to Apple headquarters and was able to share it with all of you!
