In 2025, applicants were tasked with creating an interactive app playground on the topic of their choice to showcase their passion for coding. Here’s how Conor describes his winning submission.

Herald enables people with motor neuron diseases like ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease to communicate without speaking using facial muscles to control a keyboard with ARKit. I was inspired by watching an interview with Stephen Hawking, who spent most of his life with ALS. His ability to speak using assisted software and the user experience it provided captivated me. This research culminated in this project, an attempt to replicate his experience entirely on an Apple device.
